Parting Gift Charm bracelets December 8, 2009

I’ve had the same best friend since I was in 2nd grade. Her name is Dianne and we have been inseparable from the day we met. We have always shared a lot of things, gone to the same camps went to the same private school and even shared our most intimate secrets of crushes, family problems and dreams. You can just imagine my devastation to find out that on my high school senior year, Dianne and her family was moving to Japan so her dad could take an expat job.

I was so depressed because for the longest time having her around didn’t make me feel so alone and I had always considered her a sister. On her last day in our neighborhood, Diane made me give her a promise to stay in touch through phone and emails at all time, she also gave me seven charm bracelets to wear for each day of the week to remind myself of our friendship and so I can think about her and our fond memories every time I miss her or feel sad. I was so touched that I couldn’t help but cry. These days, when I miss her I just look at my wrist and know that even if she is on the other side of the world, she thinks about me and our sisterhood.
